COMPANY HISTORY

PIT Instruction & Training is owned and operated by Thomas C. DeLoach and Jeff Hammond.

From 2000 to 2003, Mr. DeLoach was a partner, then consultant with Penske Racing’s NASCAR Winston Cup teams. He is vice chairman of the Georgia Tech Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering Advisory Board, a Director for Liberty Property Trust, and is managing partner for PIT Instruction and Training, LLC.

Motor sports veteran and Charlotte native Jeff Hammond has been involved in NASCAR® for over thirty years as a crew member, crew chief, and team owner. Mr. Hammond’s career includes forty-three race  wins, seven Winston Cup championships, and an Emmy nomination as a broadcaster for FOX Sports.

As a start-up company, 5 OFF 5 ON Race Team Performance was founded in July 2000 and opened for business in Lakeside Business Park of Mooresville in April 2001. The primary scope of business was as a pit crew training and practice facility for persons seeking the technical skills and experience necessary for employment in the growing and competitive motor sports industry. Within a short time, 5 OFF 5 ON Race Team Performance began receiving requests for services including crew placement services for race teams, visits from bus tour and receptive service groups, and pit crew experiences for individuals and organizations.

PIT Instruction and Training acquired 5 OFF 5 ON Race Team Performance in April 2003 and began construction of a new facility in Talbert Business Park also in Mooresville. 5 OFF 5 ON Race Team Performance became and remains an active program within the PIT scope of business.

The new PIT facility is located on a five and one half acre campus with 32,000 square feet of facility space including a quarter mile approach practice track with six pit stalls, a complete fitness conditioning center with physical therapy and medical services, small and large meeting facilities including multi-use large screen presentation theater and full audio-visual capability for seating up to 98, and individual conference and meeting rooms, dining room, and catering kitchen.

PIT Instruction and Training continues to serve the motor sports industry and additionally offers services and programs to the general public as well as small and large corporations, community organizations, conferences and workshops, public services, and charities.

Pit Crew U
An eight week experiential education program open to all individuals interested in
gaining the necessary technical skills for a career as an over-the-wall pit crew athlete.

Recent Pit Crew U Accomplishments
1. Pit Crew U is the official Crew Member Development Partner of Drive for Diversity in association with the NASCAR diversity initiative.
2. Featured on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and “Southern Living Presents” television
3. Pit Crew U has enrolled more than 600 individuals representing more than 35 states and 3 foreign countries.
4. Trained Nicole Addison, only over-the-wall female tire changer in NASCAR®

5 OFF 5 ON Race Team Performance
An ongoing coaching and practice program for individuals completing the Pit Crew U program to gain the necessary level of expertise for a career as an over-the-wall pit crew athlete. Upper level performing individuals are “outsourced” to race teams as crew members to gain valuable real-life experience.

Additionally provides strength and pit crew coaching services, practice preparation, facility use, and medical services to professional race teams including Team Red Bull Racing, Robbie Gordon Racing, Red Horse Racing, and Mac Hill Motorsports.

Recent Accomplishments
1. Previous participants have received top individual honors and awards for their performance in the NASCAR All-Star Pit Crew Challenge in 2005, 2006, and 2007
2. Provided pit crew for 2006 ARCA Series Champion driver Frank Kimmel.
3. Previous participants have gained employment, been active members, and won races and series championships at every level of racing.
4. Previous participants have gained employment as Pit Crew Coordinators and Coaches at the highest level of motor sports (MB2 / Ginn Racing, Team Rensi).

Lean Performance U / “Think Inside the Box”
A corporate and organizational program addressing 5S, Six Sigma, TPM, Standard Work, and Continuous Improvement methodologies as used by pit crews of professional motor sports as they relate to reliability-based industries such as maintenance and manufacturing.

Conceptualized and designed by PIT, the Lean Performance U programs are provided at the PIT facility in Mooresville and throughout the country for individual organizations as well as in workshop format allowing for open enrollment for any person interested.

1. Received the 2006 Elliott Masie Learning Consortium Innovative Learning Leadership Award
2. Featured in television, newspaper, and magazines stories by CNN, USA Today, ABC World News, ABC Good Morning America, NBC Nightly News, Hemispheres Magazine, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, the German magazine “Traders Journal Mehr Wissen”
3. Utilized by organizations including Intel, United Airlines, Bank of America, Alltel, Coca-Cola, Textron / E-Z-Go, Comcast, Michelin, and Union Pacific Railroad
4. Only vendor to received consecutive contracts with the annual ConocoPhillips Global Advanced Management Program 
5. Invitational appearances at Training Magazine conference, Learning conference, Workplace Innovations (US Department of Labor) conference, and Performance

Other
1. Provided consulting, talent (pit crew) and equipment for the live race themed stage show at Disney’s El Capitan Theater in Hollywood for the movie “CARS”.
2. Provided consulting, staffing and equipment for the Fast Cars & Superstars, ABC primetime television series for The Gillette Young Guns.
3. Host of the United Way Winter Black Tie Gala
4. Annual host facility for the Ford / AAA Student Automotive Skills Competition for North Carolina and South Carolina high school programs.  
5. Host of National Pit Crew Championship Powered by Tyson televised nationally
6. Provided cast members / talent to such movies as “3” and Talladega Nights and commercials for Goodyear Wet Tire Shine, Craftsman Tools, Klondike Ice Cream Bars, and NAPA
7. Annual appearances at Stocks for Tots since 2001
8. Annual host of University of North Carolina Charlotte “Med Camp” summer program since 2003
9. Staff participated in Habitat for Humanity home build
