PIT Athletes Collect Second Win with Allgaier Motorsports


PIT athletes Jon Wocjio (J), Scott Crews (FCa), and Ben Fetzer (RCa) cheered from pit road as Justin Allgaier Motorsports drove to victory at the Pennsylvania 200 for driver Justin Allgaier's first superspeedway win. The team is solidly in fourth place overall in the ARCA RE/MAX series points.

"These guys on the crew did an awesome job today," Allgaier said. "The pit crew game me awesome pit stops off of pit road all day. Really I couldn't ask for a better day."

 
History Channel Series Premier Features PIT


The first episode of  The Works , a new weekly series by The History Channel was filmed at the Performance Instruction & Training (PIT) facilities featuring a segment on the how impact wrenches utilized by motorsport pit crews work to remove and install lug nuts with blazing speed.

The complete episode can be purchased at the The History Channel Online Store. The series airs each Thursday evening.

 
Urban Youth Racing Schools Students Visit PIT


While students from the Urban Youth Racing Schools (UYRS) were in Mooresville, N.C. for the Craftsman Career Development Apprenticeship Week, the group visited Performance Instruction & Training (PIT) to see pit crews at work and learn first hand the skills it takes to perform a pit stop and the training opportunities PIT offers.  UYRS exposes urban youth to opportunities in motorsports and Craftsman’s Career Development Week allows students to spend time as interns with NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series teams, like Red Horse Racing.  Read more about the students’ week in the Press Archives. 

 
PIT Featured on ABC's New Primetime Show "Wanna Bet?"


A crew from Performance Instruction & Training (PIT) were featured on ABC’s new show “Wanna Bet?,” which features celebrity judges betting on the success or failure of contestants’ stunts.  A team of female motorsports fans competed to see if they could complete a pit stop in double the time of less than half of PIT’s professional crew.  To see who won the bet, view the second segment of the series premiere of “Wanna Bet?”

 
PIT Partners with Joe Gibbs Racing for Corporate Training


Performance Instruction & Training (PIT) partnered with Joe Gibbs Racing to offer Mars executives the opportunity to conduct pit stops.  The experience began as they observed the No. 18 M&M’s Toyota Camry pit crew at work as the car raced into the pits with Kyle Busch behind the wheel. Mars executives then completed their own pit stops with the help of PIT’s Crew Coaches and training. Three of PIT’s own graduates are a part the No. 18 crew: Brad Donaghy (front tire carrier), Nick O’Dell (front tire changer), and Jake Seminara (rear tire changer).

 
Recent PCU Graduate Featured in Hometown Newspaper


"Brent Ligon left his native West Virginia last August with only one goal in mind.  The 21-year old St. Albans native packed his belongings and moved to Mooresville, N.C., with hopes of eventually landing a job behind the pit wall on NASCAR's biggest stage.  And thanks in part to his participation and recent graduation from the 64th group of participants at Pit Crew U, Ligon already has earned a slight foothold in the racing world."

Students Discover Careers in Athletic Training at PIT


MEDCamp students, who are interested in jobs within the medical field, visited Performance Instruction & Training (PIT) to learn about careers in athletic training within the motorsports industry.  Students experienced an athletic trainers’ work environment, learned about their responsibilities, and the education required for such a career.  The day ended as students got to try their hand at becoming the pit crew athletes PIT trains each day. 

 
PIT Teams with Alltel for My Circle 500 Contest


Performance Instruction & Training (PIT) teamed up with Alltel to host the second Alltel My Circle 500 for contest winners and their circle of friends. Teams competed head-to-head against Ryan Newman in a go-kart race and against the Penske Racing No. 12 Alltel Dodge Charger pit crew for $200,000. PIT trained the contestants prior to the challenge and hosted the entire two day event. 

 
Red Bull Racing Team Takes Championship

Congratulations to the Red Bull Racing Team #83 pit crew for winning the 2008 Pit Crew Challenge sponsored by Craftsman. Red Bull Racing Team utilizes PIT as home base and athletes from a variety of different sports. Several Pit Crew U / PIT program graduates are members of the team including Aaron Shields (FTCa), Jake Brzozowski (RTCa), Andrew Turner (J), and Chad Avrit (RTCh).

Pit Crew U graduates Nick Odell and Brad Donaghy won the individual championship for front tire carrier and front tire changer while competing on Kyle Busch’s No. 18 M&M’s Toyota Camry pit crew.
 
PIT Athletes Provide Pit Stop Demonstrations for Raceworld USA Fans


Prior to the Sprint All-Star Race at Lowe's Motor Speedway, PIT's 5 Off 5 On Race Team Performance athletes provided pit stop demonstrations for the thousands of fans who visited Raceworld USA, home of Michael Waltrip Racing.

 
PIT Students and Staff Participate in Charity Run


Performance Instruction & Training (PIT) students and staff teamed up with the Red Horse Racing pit crew to raise money through a 5K run to benefit Starfish Academy, a local summer literacy camp serving first and second grade studentsThanks to the group's hard work, campers will be able to attend at no cost to their families.  Pit Crew U 57 graduate Desi Olson came in first place for her age group, as did Red Horse Racing front tire changer Steven Tautges, a graduate of Pit Crew U 53.

 
Pit Crew U Graduate Receives Championship Ring


Pit Crew U class 57 graduate Gregory Eclarin (middle) receives his 2007 NASCAR Nationwide Series championship ring for the winning season he spent working with Roush Fenway Racing’s No. 60 car driven by Carl Edwards.  Eclarin was apart of NASCAR’s Drive For Diversity program, for which Performance Instruction & Training (PIT) is the official pit crew training partner. Eclarin is pictured with team owner Jack Roush (right) and the team’s Chief Diversity Officer Sam Belnavis. 

 
PIT Hosts Students Learning about Motorsports Careers


To some kids — and many grown-ups — a job in the racing industry would be a dream come true.  PIT, along with Petty Enterprises, Club Fx, and NTI is making an effort to show local students at an early age what it takes to snag a job in one.  On a recent tour organized by the NCMA and IE2, CMS students took a peek into the world of motorsports.

ESPN Films Segment at PIT


ESPN’s “Over The Wall” filmed on pit road at Performance Instruction & Training (PIT) to shed light on the various size of race track pit boxes and the effect on the pit crew’s operation and safety. Tire changer D.J. Copp of Petty Enterprises hosts the series.

JGR and RBRT Crews Face Off at PIT


The NASCAR® Sprint Cup Series pit crews of Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) and Red Bull Racing Team (RBRT) faced off at the Performance Instruction & Training (PIT) facility to get fully prepared for the first pit stops of the season.  JGR drivers Kyle Busch and Joey Logano got in their own practice as they drove for the live pit stops. 

 

For many of the teams’ pit crew athletes, practicing at PIT was like home court advantage as RBRT employees eight PIT program graduates and Gibbs touts four on their Cup Series pit crews.

Pit Crew Concept Gets Re-Tooled


The pit crew athletes of Red Bull Racing Team (RBRT) perform live stops outside Performance Instruction & Training’s (PIT) facility in preparation for the upcoming season.  RBRT utilizes PIT for daily practices and is the first motorsports team to make pit crew responsibilities a full-time position and really prepare the crew members as professional athletes.

Teachers In the Pits


Twenty four teachers from across the state have been touring motorsports shops this week learning how to incorporate motorsports technology into their math and science lessons. Their seminar is through the N.C. Center for the Advancement of Teaching and is called "NASCAR: Science on the Track".

Morin Leads Hendrick Pit Crews


Greg Morin, Director of Motorsports at PIT, has accepted the position of Pit Crew Coordinator at Hendrick Motorsports for the #48 and #24 teams. Morin was previously responsible for leading the Pit Crew U and 5 OFF 5 ON Race Team Performance programs.

Other PIT team members accepting coaching positions at the highest levels in motorsports include Patrick Bernall (Athletic Training Concepts), Andrew Carter (Roush Fenway Racing), Robert Johnson (Roush Fenway Racing), Greg Miller (Team Red Bull), Mike Mitchell (BAM Racing), Lance Munksgard (Chip Ganassi Racing), Bobby Nicely (Hendrick Motorsports), Terry Spalding (Petty Enterprises), and Andy Ward (Yates Racing).

 
PIT Honored as Finalist for Small Business of the Year Award


Staff, family, friends, and clients gathered to celebrate Performance Instruction & Training (PIT) as a finalist for Business North Carolina magazine’s 2007 Small Business of the Year Awards in Raleigh N.C.  PalletOne, the nation's largest new pallet manufacturing company, nominated PIT for the award after participating in PIT’s Lean Performance U program, which focuses on process improvement.

PIT Seeking State Licensure for Pit Crew Training Program


Performance Instruction & Training (PIT) has submitted a preliminary application to the Office of Proprietary School Licensing for licensure through the North Carolina Board of Community Colleges to insure students receive quality training and opportunities through a well-established and reputable program.

PIT supports the North Carolina Community College System and its mission to open the door to high-quality, accessible educational opportunities that minimize barriers to post-secondary education, maximize student success, develop a globally and multi-culturally competent workforce, and improve the lives and well-being of individuals.

Manufacturing Juice Boxes to Tightening Lug Nuts


When Blue Ridge Paper decided to implement Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) to maximize their process efforts just a year ago, they wanted to do so in a way that would be effective and stimulating to their employees. Since implementation of TPM with the assistance of PIT, several Blue Ridge Paper locations have seen production increases of 20 percent or more.

Pit Crew U Enrolling for Success


Stock Car Racing Magazine
 again featured PIT Instruction & Training with a story and tips on how you can land job in motor sports.

PIT Instruction & Training received significant mention for the success of participants in it's Pit Crew U training program including a picture of the ARCA Series 2006 Champion Frank Kimmel and his pit crew trained and coordinated by Coach Greg Morin at PIT Instruction & Training.

PIT Instruction & Training is the 2006 recipient of the Learning Innovation Award from The MASIE Center and Learning CONSORTIUM for its experiential learning program relating success in high-level motor sports to successful performance in businesses and industries.

PIT to Appear on Reality TV with Barenaked Lady


Ed Robertson, founding member of the Barenaked Ladies, had no idea what he'd gotten himself into when he flew his Cessna pontoon plane from Canada, landed on Lake Norman and visited PIT Instruction & Training.

Ed and his production crew were in Mooresville to film a segment of Ed's UP! adventure reality show. The segment is scheduled to air when the new fall television season begins.

is a large national corporation utilizing PIT Instruction & Training Lean performance programs to improve efficiency, communication, and quality. Discount Tire Company recently visited PIT Instruction & Training in Race City USA. John Elway, Superbowl MVP, won the Fast Cars & Superstars celebrity driver competition shot at the Lowe's Motor Speedway. PIT Instruction & Training providing a variety of staff, equipment, and consulting support.

Television Commercials and Movies Find Home at PIT


PIT provides equipment, cars, pit crew members, coaching expertise, and its facilities for movies, commercials, and television segments including Gillette Young Guns Fast Cars Superstars television show, the hit movie Talladega Nights , a stage show in Hollywood for the movie CARS, and commercials for Breyers Klondike Bar with Kasey Kahne and Goodyear Racing Wet Tire Shine with Tommy Baldwin and Larry McReynolds.

 
Leno's Ross the Intern Travels to Race City USA

The Tonight Show with Jay Leno sent Ross Matthews ("Ross the Intern"), to Race City USA for a a very funny segment of "Ross the Intern Goes to Pit Crew School" taped at PIT Istruction & Training.

Ross spent a day training with actual crew members at PIT and eventually made the big time as the sign board holder for the Robert Yates Racing #90 Citi Financial Ford in the NASCAR Busch series during the fall race at Lowe's Motor Speedway.
 
Drive for Diversity Receives Feature Story
